Sir, We are searching for ex-members of 96 Squadron, Royal Air Force. All ranks, trades or locations to join our association. The Squadron was originally formed in 1917, but disbanded following the Armistice. It was reformed again 1940 and was active as a Night Fighter Squadron at various locations north and south of the UK. It accounted for the destruction of many enemy aircraft and in the latter part of WW2 this included 181 'V1 Doodlebugs' in the south of England. In December 1944, the Squadron moved to the Middle and Far East with Transport Command and was disbanded in 1946. It reformed once more in Germany at RAF Ahlhorn in 1952, again in a Night Fighter role flying Meteor NF11s. The Squadron was finally disbanded in 1959. The 96 Squadron Association was founded in 1999 and we presently have 73 members. We have members who have served with the Squadron during WW2 in the early 1940s, but most are from our time in Germany 1952-59. We have an annual reunion and I publish 'Night Flyer' which is our quarterly newsletter.
