An extensive police search for a missing pensioner ended in tragedy on Tuesday when her body was discovered.

Police have confirmed that the body of an elderly woman found in the Llawhaden area this week was that of Mrs. Pamela Joyce Weait.

The body of 76-year-old Mrs. Weait, who had not been seen since she left her home in Llawhaden to go for a walk on the morning of Monday, May 14, was formally identified by a member of her family after it was found about a quarter to a half-a-mile from her home by a member of the public.

Following her disappearance police carried out an extensive ground and air search around the Llawhaden, Canaston Woods, Robeston Wathen and Narberth areas.

Mrs. Weait's family also made an emotion appeal for the public to help in finding her and, on Monday, one of her daughters, Sandra Mead carried out a reconstruction walk of the route her mother may have taken on the day when she went missing in the Narberth area.

Police have also revealed that a man with a Liverpudlian accent they were keen to trace in connection with the woman's disappearance has now been identified and located in the South Wales police area.

"He will be spoken to by Dyfed Powys officers in due course," stated a police spokesman.

Mrs. Weait's body has been taken to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest and a post-mortem was due to be conducted by a local pathologist yesterday (Thursday).

"We are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances surrounding her death," said the police spokesman.

"The matter has been referred to HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire and the conclusions of the post mortem will be made known at a coroner's inquest at a later date."
