A warning has been issued again to any vessels attempting to land on Caldey Island unauthorised - with concerns raised over disturbing seals during breeding season.

The island which announced in June that it would not be re-opening to visitors until 2021, to protect the safety of both islanders and visitors during the pandemic, had to reinforce the message last month after people in a small craft sailed over to land on the beaches of the private island.

However, over the weekend ‘Boat Trips From Tenby Harbour’ who despite not being able to offer trips to Caldey this year, have been running journeys around the island, were prompted into issuing a further warning on the weekend after being concerned that seal pups on the island might be disturbed by any boats wanting to anchor up unauthorised.

“We don’t want to sound like a moaning Minnie here guys but we are just a little concerned for our little sea dogs - as they are fast approaching breeding season and we have noticed that they are becoming very territorial and more inquisitive so we have been giving them space - so please do the same, not just for their sakes but also respect that the island is private,” a post on Facebook stated.

“Seals are heading to the beaches ready to have their pups - if you had been pregnant for 11 months we’re sure you’d fancy a little bit of space too - so please don’t beach or anchor your boats up and spend a day lighting BBQ’s on the shores of Caldey!

“Thank you for all who have listened and please advise and guide others.”
