Pictured at the opening of the new art exhibition at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery on Friday are museum trustee Hywel Thomas, artist Steve Robinson and David Pierz Hughes, who officially opened the exhibition.

The exhibition, entitled Sea Through Glass, features the work of St. David's based glass designer Steve Robinson in his first solo exhibition.

On display are over 90 pieces of glass ranging from large wall hangings, platters, coasters and shell forms of various sizes.

The shell-form bowl is one of Steve's particular 'signature' pieces, with each bowl a unique shape, with a fresh, individual mould for each one built by hand.

Steve was first drawn to glass in the early 1990s after seeing the blown glass sea-inspired forms of American glass artist Dale Chihuly. Glass became his passion.

"For me, the visual attraction is the combination of colour, transparency, light, air and texture," he said.

"The practical appeal lies in the diverse creations possible, be they abstract or figurative, functional or ornamental.

"In these days of mass production, in complete contrast it is my desire to produce handcrafted pieces of superb quality."

This sales exhibition runs until Sunday, May 23, and the museum is open daily.
