One of Wales’ most vibrant and unique festivals - the Pembrokeshire Fish Week Festival - will be held between Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, July 2.

The family-friendly festival celebrates Pembrokeshire’s fishing industry and maritime heritage, together with the spectacular coastline - with more than 250 events taking place across the county.

Coastal restaurants and pubs will be serving mouth-watering menus all week, from local seafood extravaganzas to freshly-dressed crab and lobster and much more - why not watch the sun set over the sea while tucking into a delicious fresh mackerel barbecue, home-made fish-pie, or good old fish and chips!

Foodies can enjoy cookery demos, filleting workshops and speciality fish cookery classes, as well as seaside foraging events - learn all about shellfish and edible plants and the best ways to cook them.

Experience the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline and inland estuaries with guided coastal and riverside walks, sea fishing trips, kayaking and surfing sessions - plus family events, including beach fun days, crab-catching, and river bug-hunting.

The festival is also a treat for anglers with sea angling and coarse fishing championships, plus learn-to-fish sessions for all ages and abilities.

Pembrokeshire Fish Week will be launched on Saturday, June 24, with a new family event at the village of Lawrenny.

Amber Rich, director of the launch event, said: “We are really excited to be hosting the opening day of Pembrokeshire Fish Week. Lawrenny’s location is quite magical, right in the heart of the county, but surrounded by the salt waters of the Cleddau.

“We will be having great chef-led cookery demonstrations, VIP fine dining, live music and some fantastic hands on workshops, including casting, fly tying and fish filleting plus plenty more.

“There will be loads of kids’ activities and traditional village fête too, as well as a huge range of tasty local food stands and artisan produce on offer. To end the day, there’s a fish barbecue and live music on the quayside.”

The launch will be followed by a fun day at Scolton Manor on Sunday, June 25, run by the Western Telegraph, celebrating the county’s maritime culture and heritage - with a wide range of events from cookery and filleting demos to pony rides and the chance to visit the Victorian manor house.

Mike Owen, head of media sales at the Western Telegraph, said they were delighted to be involved in Pembrokeshire Fish Week.

“Fish Week has become a key event in the county calendar and underlines Pembrokeshire’s emotional, geographical and financial relationship with coast and sea,” he said.

The closing weekend will feature a family fun day at the Parrog, Goodwick, on July 1 and the popular Saundersfoot Harbour Festival on July 2.

Pembrokeshire Fish Week is co-ordinated by Pembrokeshire County Council, part-funded by Welsh Government and supported by various organisations.
