FOLLOWING his highly successful joint photographic exhibition, multi-talented Harry Gardiner continues at Colby Gallery, near Amroth, for a further fortnight with an exhibition of pastels and watercolours.

As the title implies, main themes include wave patterns on the shore line, stormy seas and skies, reflections in wet sand and figures at the water's edge. Some additional work featuring landscapes and Harry's favourite subject - birds - will also be on view. New for this year are some recent portraits done during Tenby Arts Club popular portraiture sessions at the Greenhill Centre.

Although Harry has only lived in Tenby for the past four years, he has taken the town and surrounding area to heart, and delights in winkling out all its nooks and crannies and recreating them two-dimensionally. Never far from his camera, he uses photographs as his sketchbook. He has worked in oils and acrylics, but prefers pastels and watercolour, "building up the tones and colours in layers, but keeping the brightness of the paper shining through the pigment." Normally achieving a realistic style, he occasionally hits a happy vein with a very few colours and tones, as in 'Waves, Tenby Beach'.

"I aim to make the paintings work from close to and from 10 feet or more away" (in the 'Small Gallery', more likely to be viewed close to than from 10 feet or more!). The gallery will not, however, be lacking in colour, variety or excitement. 'Sea and Sky' runs from June 14-27, and Harry will be working in situ on Saturdays, Sunday and Wednesdays.

Please note there are still a few tickets left for the Mid-Summer Ball in the meadow on June 21, price £25, organised by Amroth Carnival Committee in aid of the Air Ambulance. For information regarding this and future exhibitions, please ring (01834) 814200.

The usual two for one admission to the gardens is available on production of this article.
