THE new exhibition by sculptor Darren Yeadon opens to the public at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery tomorrow (Saturday). The exhibition, entitled It's Marbleous, will feature several pieces of work in marble, bluestone and sandstone.
Darren says of his work: "The complex and strategic logic of nature is my inspiration. I celebrate aspects of this in my interpretations and realise them in a timeless and permanent material - stone. I carve sculptures, often figurative, but sometimes monolithic and abstract. I use stones sourced from quarries around Europe; favourites include Michelangelo marble from Carrara, bluestone from the Pembrokeshire hills and sandstones from Yorkshire."
When Darren was 2,3 he was involved in a serious car accident and was not expected to live. Emerging from a coma he had lost the power of speech and was unable to walk. Slowly, he pieced himself together and made the decision to become a sculptor, using the skills he had learned as an apprentice stonemason at a quarry in North Yorkshire.
Darren, who previously exhibited at the museum in 2009, added: "Life has taught me lessons and I am driven to give something back by creating something new and beautiful for others to enjoy; if it makes you smile it is work well done!"
This sales exhibition is open until Sunday, September 1. For more information, please contact the museum on (01834) 842809 or via email [email protected]">[email protected]
