With ever-increasing numbers of young people using scooters for fun and getting around, pupils from Upper Key Stage 2 English and Welsh classes in Golden Grove School-Ysgol Gelli Aur in Pembroke recently underwent a training session in 'scooter skills'.
The school, in partnership with Sustrans and their Bike It officer Howard Yeates, facilitated the training event.
The sessions covered all aspect of safe scootering, from checks on the scooters to riding techniques.
Howard said: "Scootering is a great way for children to get to school. Not only is it fun, it is an easy way for children to have some exercise as part of their normal day. Research has shown that travelling actively to school can improve children's concentration in the classroom, which will help them learn. I was very pleased to see the pupils of Golden Grove School-Ysgol Gelli Aur practising, passing pedestrians politely and walking safely across the road with their scooters."
