FLYING the flag for Wales, the Pembrokeshire Darwin Science Festival team, along with a group of Pembrokeshire students and teachers from around the county, are currently in Italy taking part in European Science and Technology Week.
The party will give poster presentations of their science projects at a prestigious scientific meeting in Florence, which will be attended by European Commissioners. The Pembrokeshire students and teachers will have the opportunity to meet their contemporaries from Italy and will also be meeting peer groups from Sweden and Russia.
An excited group set off from Pembrokeshire College on Saturday to catch an early evening flight to Italy. The students won their places following their success in presenting scientific projects at 'Science Aglow', an event staged by the festival earlier in the year.
One of only two UK projects to receive funding from the European Commission, the students taking part in this exciting international event include the 2000/01 science club students of the Mary Immaculate RC School, Haverfordwest, and three students from Pembrokeshire College.
Teachers from Milford Haven Comprehensive, Greenhill Comprehensive, Tenby, Mary Immaculate RC School and Tavernspite CP School were amongst the party.
Ocky White Travel managers Heddwyn and Jean Williams, who are based at Tenby and Pembrokeshire College respectively, assisted the festival team in the organisation of this unique trip.
