Two Pembrokeshire primary schools have been praised for their commitment to sport. Pembroke Dock Community School and Holy Name RC School in Fishguard have been presented with Active Cymru Awards. The awards have been introduced by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Sports Council for Wales to recognise schools that show a commitment to high quality PE and school sport. The award is not a recognition of facilities, but of the quality of sport provision and high standards on offer. Almost 80 schools from 16 local authorities in Wales applied for the awards, including two from Pembrokeshire. Both schools have also been awarded the Dragon Sport Accreditation Gold Award for their commitment to providing Dragon Sport after- school activities to children. Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for sport and leisure, congratulated the two schools on their achievements. "Given current concerns about the importance of health and fitness these awards are particularly important," he said. "They are a testament to the hard work and commitment by each school - working in partnership with Sport Pembrokeshire - to improve the fitness and sport uptake of their pupils."
