HSBC Yeoman SHIELD 2004-5
Pembrokeshire bowed out of the HSBC Yeoman Competition for primary schools at the eighth and final round held in Aberystwyth on Saturday. Both sides met South Ceredigion in their first match, a match they had to win to give them the chance of getting through to the finals. The A side went 1-0 down in the first minute, and despite having most of the play after that, they could not manage to find the back of the net. They came very close on numerous occasions, but it just wasn't their day. The B side battled bravely to produce a 0-0 draw, but South Ceredigion took the vital points. The second set of matches was against North Ceredigion. The A side played a lot better and Elliot Scotcher scored the goal to put Pembs. 1-0 up. However, the B side had a disastrous start, going 3-0 down in several minutes. Bradley Barrett pulled one back, but despite some good attacking play, it was too little too late. The final matches were against Swansea. The A team played magnificently and won 1-0, with Greg Palin scoring a superb goal. The B side contained Swansea in the first half, but then conceded a goal after half-time. This meant the teams shared the points. With only one point taken from this last round, it meant Pembs. ended up in third position and do not go through to the Welsh Finals in May. Coaches Angela Nicholls and Gavin Scotcher would like to congratulate the whole under 11s squad who have performed so well over the past eight months and have been a credit to their schools and country. They would also like to thank parents, relatives and supporters for their loyalty over the season. Pembs A: Anthony Bevan (Milford), Jake Proctor (Stepaside), Iwan Izzard (Manorbier), Ben Steele (Pennar), Jack Murphy, Elliott Scotcher, Will Cowans, Greg Palin (Tenby Junior). Pembs B: Joe Hodgson (Bro Ing), Elliot Goldsmith (St. Teilo's), Bradley Barrett (St. Marks), Martyn Carroll (St. Mary's), Rhys Clutterbuck (Ysgol Glan Cleddau), Sion Bennett (Narberth), Elliot Collins (Prendergast), Niall Kinsella (Holy Name), Angharad Jenkins (Maenclochog). Pembrokeshire Schools FA would like to thank main sponsor, Phil Owen Electrics; kit sponsors, Wimpy and Jagos (Tenby); and team sponsors, Phoenix Bowl Ltd., Richard Bros.
