Picton Castle is a rare 13th century castle nestling in magnificent woodland gardens on the banks of the Cleddau River.

This year, Picton Castle is again delighted to host the ever-popular Pembrokeshire Schools Art Competition on display in the Courtyard Gallery throughout June.

"The Picton Castle Trust is delighted to host this very exciting and engaging exhibition," said Dai Evans, director of the Trust.

"The response from the schools has been excellent and the art works are of such a high standard that judging was very difficult.

"We are grateful to Lady Roch and the West Wales Fine and Decorative Arts Society for their support in sponsoring the prizes for this event," he added.

The theme for 2011 was 'The Cleddau River' to reflect the influence the great river estuary has had on West Wales and the international arts community.

The prizes were presented by Lady Susan Roch, chair of the WWDFAS, who had also been on the judging panel.

The entries were of a very high standard and came from: Manorbier VCP School, Llanychllwydog CP School, Prendergast CP School, Meads Infant School and Roch Community School.

"West Wales Decorative and Fine Arts Society is pleased to sponsor and support this marvellous exhibition of art works by the school children of Pembrokeshire," said Lady Roch.

"The art works are wonderful. The children have all worked really hard and have shown their skills and imagination in producing the pictures.

"Many of the works show great flair and promise. It was very difficult to choose winners," she said.

The two winning schools, Tenby VCP School and Roch Community School, were awarded prizes sponsored by the West Wales Decorative and Fine Arts Society and Emrys Arts Supplies, of Haverfordwest.

There were individual prizes of a family season ticket to Picton Castle and Woodland Gardens and certificates for the best artists from all the schools.

All the entrants received a free day pass from The Picton Castle Trust.

You can view the magnificent art works in the Courtyard Gallery.
