Fresh from their rousing performance, played to great acclaim at the close of the Pembrokeshire Texaco Secondary Schools' Instrumental Festival Concert on Saturday, November 20, the Greenhill School Orchestra will perform at the Christmas Concert at the school. This will be held in the main hall on Wednesday, December 15, at 7.30 pm. The orchestra, under the baton of Mr. Paul Rapi, head of the creative arts department, is well-known both nationally and internationally. These talented students have played in venues such as the Royal Festival Hall in London, where highly commended awards were received in the National Festival of Music for Youth, and St. David's Hall in Cardiff for the School Proms. They have also played abroad in Paris, Salzburg and Prague. Members, parents and supporters await with excited anticipation for their next tour in July to Tuscany. In addition, auditions will be taking place next year for the Urdd Eisteddfod to be held in the new Millennium Centre in Cardiff. As twice overall winners of the Eisteddfod, members of the orchestra are naturally hoping for a third triumph. The Supporters of Greenhill Orchestra (SOGO), the committee, consisting mainly but not exclusively of parents of members of the present orchestra, meet three times a year to promote concerts, organise supporters' visits and enhance resources. Sponsorship and patronage are actively encouraged, and any interest in the committee's endeavours is always appreciated. However, small offers of help from those who prefer not to attend meetings are always very acceptable. For anyone not familiar with the work of this talented 119-strong orchestra, an evening at the Christmas Concert will certainly be well-spent. Tickets available in advance from the Greenhill School and Dales, Tenby, are priced at £5, £4 and £3. Those purchased at the door on the evening of the concert will be £1 extra. Doors open at 6.45 pm for a 7.30 pm start. The orchestra will be playing a varied selection of music, so please go along and support these amazing students in their musical endeavours. You can be sure that the evening's entertainment will be both enjoyable and impressive.
