Pembrokeshire County Council's school catering staff have been recognised for their high hygiene standards.

School dinner ladies from 33 out of the authority's 58 kitchens were presented with Welsh Food Hygiene Awards at a special ceremony last week.

Saundersfoot's catering team won a gold award - believed to be the only one in Wales.

The Welsh Food Hygiene Awards scheme recognises food premises which have attained and maintained high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene practices.

Awards - gold, silver and bronze - are given to kitchens following an unannounced inspection by environmental health inspectors.

Rosemary Griffiths, Pembrokeshire's catering service manager, who organised this week's ceremony, said: "The ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the hard work of our school cooks and their teams, who in working together have achieved these coveted awards."

Clr. Huw George, cabinet member for children, young people and learning, presented the 33 catering teams with their certificates on Thursday.
