Artistic pupils from Tavernspite School raised nearly £2,000 for charity with an art exhibition and auction.

The school's 200 pupils all painted pictures which were then framed and presented at a special art exhibition. Parents bought their work and that of generous local artists who donated original pictures.

"We had a terrific response from parents and we are also very grateful to all the wonderful local artists who donated their work," said headteacher Kevin Phelps.

"I am very proud of our talented children. The hall looked great on the night, with all their work so professionally displayed," he added.

The event raised nearly £2,000, which was split between Macmillan Cancer Support and the school's Parent Teacher's Association (PTA).

"We are extremely grateful to the artistic children and the hard working PTA at Tavernspite School for this very generous donation," said Pauline Davies, chairman of the Tenby, Saundersfoot and district branch of Macmillan.

PTA chairwoman, Rupal Naik, said: "We'd like to thank Bargain Box for providing the frames and all the local artists who helped us out."
