Valero's Pembroke refinery received a visit from pupils and staff at Milford Haven School last month to recognise the contribution that employees and contractors made to the school's record-breaking fundraising for the BBC's Children in Need appeal in November 2011.
The school raised over £25,000 for the national appeal, beating the previous year's total of over £22,000. Of this total, £1,420 was raised by its 'Big Dip' event at Broad Haven.
One of the contractors based at Valero's refinery, Marcelino Puglia, who works for Hertel, was given valuable support by both companies to help his daughter Sophie's 'Dip'.
"Thank you to both Valero and Hertel for allowing me to help my daughter raise money for Children in Need, and to all the employees and contractors at the refinery who gave so generously," said Marcelino Puglia.
"As a parent, I'm very proud of how much the school raised for a cause that is so close to all our hearts, and let's hope that next year they can again have a record-breaking fundraising day."
In light of Milford Haven School's fantastic achievement, Valero have generously donated a further £500 to the BBC's 2011 Children in Need appeal, which has so far raised £26 million to help children's charities in the UK and overseas.
