With less than two weeks to go until the first Tenby Round Table Summer Spectacular of 2002, preparations are being made for two bumper events.

Tablers have spent months preparing for one of the highlights of the summer entertainment scene in Pembrokeshire and are looking forward to presenting two packed programmes with fun for all the family.

Once again the main sponsors for the events are Kiln Park and Table chairman Carl Evans expressed his gratitude to them for their continued support.

"Kiln Park have backed us now for several years and I would like to thank them, in particular their general manager, Elam John, for supporting us once again," said Carl.

"Not only do they offer generous financial sponsorship, but they provide the service of their talented entertainers who are always a big hit with the children.

"Once again we would also like to ask other local businesses to support our events through sponsorship. This helps us as a Table to offset the considerable costs incurred in staging the events and makes sure that as much of the money that we take as possible goes to deserving causes," he added.

The first event takes place on Sunday, July 28, and Tablers are already keeping a close eye on the weather forecasts, hoping that things will be as kind as last year when the sun smiled down on both events.

"We really do have a packed programme planned for both events," Carl continued. "We like to think that we have something for all the family and have pulled out all the stops this year."

The Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, will formally open the first spectacular at 3 pm, before the fun really begins with the talented team from Kiln Park and their ever-popular Bradley Bear show.

The zany circus skills of Jugglestruck will be on display, as will the ever-popular Celtic Claddagh Irish Dance Group, while local DJ, Wacky Wayne Wharton, will also be on hand to keep the party swinging.

Tenby Coastguard will be giving a display of their impressive skills in the harbour area at 5.30 pm.

Tablers take great delight in the welcome return for the first time in five years of the twin bi-planes of the Firebird Aerobatics team who will be putting their flying machines through all manner of impossible aerial stunts above the natural amphitheatre of the North Bay during the first event.

Action will switch from the skies back to the main stage at around 6.30 pm when Lee Mason, of well-known local club band Mustard Mitt, will be performing, before the always spectacular launch of Tenby's Tyne-class lifeboat the RFA Sir Galahad.

Tablers are also delighted that the RAF Sea King from RAF Chivenor will be appearing at the first event to join with the RFA Sir Galahad in an air-sea rescue display.

As the evening shadows fall, it will be music all the way, with a host of popular bands creating a real party atmosphere in the harbour.

The first event sees the ever-popular Talisman hit the stage with their unique mix of covers from the past few decades, while the second event, on August 11, marks the welcome return of The Rainkings with their entertaining brand of folk music.

For the second event, Lee Mason will also be returning, this time bringing the rest of Mustard Mitt with him!

The second event will also see the Wales Air Ambulance Charity Bungee Jump, with hardy souls leaping from a crane 180 foot above the harbour to raise cash for good causes throughout the day until early evening.

Both events will be brought to their usual rousing climax with massive firework displays choreographed by Joe Cameron, from Flameburst FX.

The displays are always a fitting end to a great day's entertainment, lighting up the sky and bringing gasps from the crowd.

As well as the entertainment on the main events stage, there will be plenty to see and do for all the family throughout the day, with a wide range of side-shows and stalls managed by local charities, bouncy castles, face painting and balloon modelling, refreshments, including a pig roast, burger stalls and licensed bar, and much, much more.

"Everything is now in place for two cracking Sundays: all we need now is for a little bit of sunshine and for everyone to come along and join in the fun," said Carl

"I would also urge local businesses to support our events by sponsoring us this year. Every penny we receive counts and means that more money can be distributed to good causes. Few people realise just how much it costs to stage events like this and any help we can get we are extremely grateful for.

"Once again I would like to stress my gratitude to Kiln Park, and to Texaco, for the loan of their stage for both events.

"Last year we had two really great days. Let's hope for some equally spectacular days on July 28 and August 11."
