Villagers in Templeton have been ‘crowing’ this week about the success of its first ‘Scarecrow Competition’ which took place on Monday (August 24).

The competition was shortened from the planned week long exhibition of scarecrows due to the bad weather, but 15 entrants from the village took part, and some wonderful scarecrow making skills and ideas were shown with all entries being of a very high standard.

Judging the competition was local award winning wildlife and landscape photographer Drew Buckley who had a very hard decision to make in choosing the winning scarecrows.

The winners were: 1st place - Barbara Reeves with her scarecrow Kraka; 2nd - Debbie Clark with her scarecrow Rambling Rose; 3rd - Nikki Trimble with her pirate scarecrow Temple Barti

The winners were presented with rosettes and certificates for their scarecrows and all proceeds from the competition entry will go to Templeton School.

The organiser of the event Sarah Weidemann who is planning on holding the competition again next summer said: “Great community spirit has been shown during the event in a time where many people are unable to socialise.”
