The future of an open green space of land in Tenby was up for discussion at this week’s meeting of the town council, following a campaign launched to fight any development taking place there.

A recommendation to dispose of the Brynhir site, off Narberth Road, was recently given the go ahead by members of Pembrokeshire County Council’s cabinet.

However, the decision has been met with opposition by residents in the area, who have created the ‘Save Brynhir green space and wildlife’ Facebook page, stating that plans to build on the ‘beautiful fields’ of the 6.35 hectares of land are not welcomed by many locals.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, town clerk, Andrew Davies told members that the campaign launched to preserve the site was gathering momentum, and that he’d been asked to put the item on the agenda by Clr. Mike Evans so that the town council could start to look at a ‘vision’ for the area, and how they would envisage a form of development which would be best for Tenby.

Mr. Davies told members that he was unsure if the sustainability argument carried by the campaign group would carry much weight, as the land had been featured in the Local Development Plan for a number of years as an area earmarked for development.

Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter asked for the matter to be taken into private discussion as she had some further information for members.
