Tenby's 'save a shrub' scheme has been hailed as a success after seeing some areas in the town benefit from the initiative launched by the Tenby in Bloom committee back in March.

Tenby in Bloom's chairman, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, set-up the 'save a shrub' scheme, along with Pembrokeshire County Council, so that anyone who had unwanted shrubs, trees or ornamental grasses could take them to the civic amenity site at The Salterns where a box was available for them to be recycled.

One area which has benefited from the scheme is Seascape, where resident Claire Stubbs has spent the past five years getting her fingers green in tidying up the entrance to the housing estate.

"Tenby in Bloom has previously purchased a few shrubs for this little community project, and some of these recyclable giant bamboo shoots from the scheme will help with the project," said Clr. Mrs. Lane.

"There's plenty of weeds to go around, though, so anyone who wishes to help with the project is welcome to do so," added Claire.

Clr. Lane said that lots of other recyclable shrubs which came in as part of the project, which was set up to coincide with the build up to this year's Britain in Bloom contest, had gone out to be utilised around the town by the county council's gardening team, but people were still welcome to carry on donating to the scheme.
