Pat Field, aged 51, from Saundersfoot, has raised £12,559.97 for Cancer Research UK's 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign'. Pat, currently receiving chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, called on the support of the people of Saundersfoot to help raise vital funds for the charity's research into the disease. It was a real community effort in raising the tremendous sum and the whole village turned pink between October 7 and 12 to show their support. Pat said: "We are a very close community in Saundersfoot and everybody pulled together to help. "Cancer is a disease that has touched somebody we all know and we all wanted to do something to help Cancer Research UK in their research. "I want to thank all my close friends and the whole community for all their support and help over the week; without them it wouldn't have been such a wonderful success." Pubs, clubs, businesses and shops all turned pink to show their support and donated prizes, venues and time to help Pat in her conquest. Barclays Bank also matched the raffle funds, donating £500, and Texaco held a pink day, donating £1,100 towards Pat Field's tremendous £12,500 for Cancer Research UK's 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign'. One of the activities that took place was a sponsored walk from Kilgetty to Saundersfoot on October 10, among pub quizzes, raffles, pink teas, darts matches, entertainment nights to name a few. Cancer Research UK community fund-raiser Linda Strange said: "Pat is a truly inspiring lady and we would like to thank her and the whole community for their overwhelming support of our 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign'; they really will help make a difference to the vital research." Pat is due to receive radiotherapy treatment after Christmas and Cancer Research UK and the people of Saundersfoot offer their thoughts and wishes for a very Merry Christmas.
