For many years, Saundersfoot Rotary Club has bought and planted thousands of crocus corms in and around the village.

The crocuses are deliberately chosen to be of the purple variety, as this is the colour chosen by Rotary International to advertise and support this international project to eradicate polio worldwide.

There are now only two countries which are still affected by the wild polio virus and money raised for Rotary will be used to protect children with anti-polio vaccines.

This project has been very successful so far but Rotary will not rest in their efforts to eradicate the disease throughout the world.

You can help by supporting this project, with Polio Eradication Day to be held on October 24.

On Monday, October 24 and Tuesday, October 25, Saundersfoot Rotary have organised with the support of the harbour authorities and the Regency Hall a two day programme to highlight how we can all help to fight this infection.

The harbour will light up the masts of the boat with purple lights from 7 to 9 pm; whilst the Regency Hall have supplied a table for a small display concerning Polio, and on both days purple corms will be sold and collection buckets will be available for public donations.

Rotarians have once again been planting crocus corms, this time on the banks of the Saundersfoot Medical Centre car park and collection buckets will be around on both of the above days.

Every £1 collected will be sponsored by Bill Gates and Melinda Gates to the tune of another two pounds making your donation worth £3 to this very worth while cause.

All funds raised will go to the World Wide Polio Eradication Project W.H.O.

Please give generously if at all possible to save the health and lives of children by donations or buying purple corms for your garden.

The Rotary Club thanks all those involved for their co-operation with this project.
