Hebron Baptist Church
The visiting speaker last Sunday was Rev. Bryan Jones from Brecon, accompanied by his wife Kaye. Rev. Jones read from Matthew, chapter 3. Mr. Anthony Standing was the worship leader and warmly welcomed new and regular holiday visitors. The pianist was Miss Helen Standing and the welcome stewards were Mr. and Mrs. Chatwin.
Mrs. Jones, an accomplished artist and song writer, talked about the references in the Bible to songs and music. She went on to say that traditional hymns and modern songs and anything in-between, has its place in worship. For Christians, it is vital that they continue to sing a new song, that in their daily lives their hearts are lifted to the Lord and sing His praises. It is hard to sing with a heavy heart, but God expects us to give him our burdens, then we can sing again.
Mrs. Jones accompanied herself on the guitar and sang her latest song entitled 'A New Song'.
Rev. Jones, who is associated with International Teams, then showed a short DVD of the work on the African continent which is giving the poor and deprived people 'A New Song' in their hearts.
In his message, Rev. Jones said that Father's Day is a time to remember our relationship to those who guide us. In Matthew, chapter 3, God speaks out from heaven, saying of Jesus, 'This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased.'
This was the start of Jesus' ministry, before He had shown miracles, or done the greatest gift of dying for us. God repeated His message a few years later near the end of Jesus' life. However, this time adds the instruction, 'Listen to Him.'
When we have times of doubt and worry, we can come through our struggle when we listen to the words of Jesus. Reading the Bible can help us refocus and gain a perspective of the promises of God, but only through the gospels' teaching can our lives be completely transformed. 'As many as received Jesus, He gave them the authority to be the children of God.'
God's words of forgiveness are for anyone who believes no matter what their background. By responding to His guidance, we are blessed and we want to worship Him.
This Sunday, the speaker will be Mrs. Jenny Gough, with activities for the young people in the hall during the message. Tuesday club meets at The Poppies at 6 pm. There are no other meetings this week. For more information, visit http://www.hebronbaptistsaundersfoot.org.uk">www.hebronbaptistsaundersfoot.org.uk or call 811697. A warm welcome awaits you.
METHODIST CHURCH
The preacher on Sunday was Mr. John Desmond from Coventry. He took as his gospel reading, Mark 4, from verse 35. The disciples were frightened when a storm arose when they were on the sea. But Jesus calmed the wind and the waves. That terrified the disciples too! Who is this, they asked each other, for they had not yet realised the truth.
This calming of the sea is an echo of that described in Psalm 107 from verse 25. When the sailors called to the Lord in their trouble, he stilled the storm and guided them to a safe haven. We should not feel alone in our troubles. If we call on the Lord he will help us.
This Sunday morning at 11 am the service will be led by Mr. David Wheeler. A warm welcome is extended to all.
THOMAS MEMORIAL CHURCH
