METHODIST CHURCH

As the appointed preacher was unable to attend on Sunday, Brian, at short notice, took the service and spoke on the first part of John, chapter 21.

Shortly after the crucifixion, some of the disciples had gone fishing. Returning after a night of profitless fishing, they were greeted by a stranger on the shore. He told them to cast nets on the right side, which resulted in a large catch.

They went ashore and had breakfast with the 'stranger'. But none dared to ask "who are you?" They knew it had to be the Lord.

Jesus want to be part of our lives, if we will but listen to him.

This Sunday morning at 11 am the service will be led by Mr. John Desmond.

A warm welcome is extended to all.

St. Issell's

A business meeting held in June replaced the visit to Scolton Manor which was cancelled, due to unforeseen circumstances. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes opened the meeting with prayers for Lonely People, Family Life, the Mothers' Union, and, in particular, Jessel Rowlands, who was in hospital.

An apology was received from Mrs. Georgina Butler, who was accompanying her husband Canon Butler on his annual Residence at St. David's Cathedral.

Arrangements were made for members participating in the 'Saundersfoot in Bloom' being held in St. Issell's Church on Thursday, June 25, and members were reminded of the annual 'Coffee Cymraeg' being held at the Regency Sports Club on Tuesday, July 14, at 10.30 am.

Hebron Baptist Church

The worship leader last Sunday was Mr. Anthony Standing, who gave a warm welcome to returning visitors. The speaker was Mrs. La Donna Mallams, who selected Bible readings from Isaiah 40 v 21-31 and Mark 1 v 29-39 read by Mr. Don Mallams.

The pianist was Miss Helen Standing and the welcome stewards were Mr. and Mrs. Taberer.

Mrs. Standing continued the illustrated series on the Early Church. Seven deacons had been appointed to assist the apostles. Stephen was arrested on false charges and later stoned to death. Some believers moved away and Philip, one of the seven, went to Samaria, where he began to speak about the Saviour. People believed not only because of his words, but they saw people being healed. Peter and John heard about the Samaritans following Jesus and went to visit Philip. When they saw and heard the testimony of these new believers, Peter prayed that the Holy Spirit would come to them as he had come to the believers in Jerusalem. The believers continued to share the Good News.

Philip was told by an angel of the Lord to go out to the road from Jerusalem to Gaza and there he saw the Ethiopian Chancellor of the Exchequer travelling home by chariot. He was reading the book of Isaiah and Philip ran to him asking if the traveller understood what he was reading. When Philip explained that the scriptures were referring to Jesus who died for the sins of the world, the Ethiopian became a believer and was baptised in a pool nearby.

Jesus had instructed the disciples to go into all the world and preach the gospel and this was the beginning of spreading the Word worldwide. Wherever God sends or places us, that is where we should be serving faithfully as believers.

Mrs. Mallams began by saying that Jesus calls people to help him work in the local community. In Mark 1v29-39 we read that Jesus healed Simon Peter's mother-in-law, quietly and privately in their everyday home. Too ill to look after the needs of the family and visitors, she now needed care. Jesus dealt with the problem, healing Peter's mother-in-law.

We all have difficult decisions to make which affect our families and often struggle to get the right balance between work, family life, and health issues. 21st century family life still has its hardships and complications. God is aware of our circumstances and needs and will listen to our cries for help today. He can use the diversity within our own families to bring blessings. Millions of people around the world turn to Jesus for help every day. He is available all the time and we don't have to be in a special place to speak to Him, however by example Jesus showed that we all need to take time out from the chaotic world around us and spend time in prayer.

Following her time with Jesus, Peter's mother-in-law, her strength and energy was renewed. We can come through life's trials with a new strength from God.

The speaker at 11 am on Sunday will be Rev. Bryan Jones from Brecon. The young people will have activities in the hall during the message. A warm welcome awaits you. Tuesday Club meets at The Poppies at 6 pm. There are no other meetings this week.
