Hebron Baptist Church
Last Sunday, Mr. Anthony Standing led the opening worship and the speaker, Martin Dudgeon, read Psalm 67 v 1-13. Mr. and Mrs. Chatwin were the welcome stewards.
Continuing the illustrated series 'People who met Jesus', Mrs. Standing reminded the young people that Jesus showed his love and care for people of all backgrounds and situations. Wealthy landowners, high ranking officials, fishermen, tax collectors and even those with leprosy had their lives touched by Jesus.
Zacchaeus overcame obstacles to see Jesus. The crowd were preventing this short man from being able to see along the road, so he ran on ahead and climbed into a tree to watch the Lord pass by. But Jesus stopped by the tree and called to him. Zacchaeus responded immediately. Gladly taking Jesus to his home. he would have no alternative but to walk in front of the crowd. He had become a follower and everyone knew about it! He responded to the love of Christ by showing love to others. Firstly he promised to give half of what he owned to help the poor and also promised to pay back fourfold any sums of money people had been overcharged in taxes.
We should willingly serve the Lord, remembering those in need. Even in difficult times we are far more wealthy and richly blessed than many other people here and overseas. We should serve the Lord with all that we are and have.
Mr. Dudgeon, who works with AsiaLink, began by saying that followers of Jesus should be attractive. They should live lives that draw others in, showing care and concern and a willingness to be a good neighbour. Christians should also be expansive, ready to go out wherever the Lord sends them.
Jesus said, 'Go into all the world.' Get the gospel out there. That's why this church is involved in Missions. Even if God does not send us overseas, we can be part of the mission to reach and help others around the world.
This Sunday, at 11 am, the speaker will be Mrs. LaDonna Mallams. Young people will have their own activities in the hall during the message. Tuesday Club meets at The Poppies at 6 pm. On Thursday at 7.30 pm in the hall the Bible Study Group will commence studies on Mark's Gospel. A warm welcomed awaits you at our services and activities.
