Cricket: The first team played at home on Saturday against second placed Haverfordwest second team. Having lost the toss, Saundersfoot were put into bat on a very damp track. Runs were difficult to come by and at the end of 20 overs they had only reached 39-1. The mainstays of the batting were Mike Franklin (48) and Paul Mansbridge (25), adding 57 runs for the second wicket. After that, although the flow of runs increased, so did the fall of wickets and with Danny Caine (18) being the only other batsmen to reach double figures, the innings closed on 130-8. This total looked well within the reach of the Haverfordwest batsmen when they scored 23 off the first four overs. However, tight bowling restricted the batsmen from there on and the resulting pressure meant that wickets fell regularly. With the last two batsmen at wicket, 29 runs were still required for victory when Chris Parker struck to give Saundersfoot a well-deserved victory by 15 runs. The Saundersfoot wicket-takers were Chris Parker 4-14, David Dunfee 1-24, Danny Caine 3-27 and Dickie Parcell 1-34. Next week, Saundersfoot are away to Lamphey. The second team were away to Hundleton on Saturday and looking for a third consecutive win. This was not to be and after losing the toss Saundersfoot could only manage 102 all out against a mediocre Hundleton attack. This score would have been a lot lower if it hadn't been for a fine 58 from Paul Brooks. Saundersfoot bowlers laboured on a drying wicket, but couldn't dislodge veteran batsman Steve Williams, who finished on 58 not out, with Hundleton winning easily by nine wickets. Next week the second team are at home to Stackpole seconds. Boot sales: Last week's boot sale was cancelled due to the rain, but from next week there will be boot sales on both Tuesdays and Fridays until the end of August. Pitches are still only £5 a car.
