CARNIVAL

Monday evening saw the selection of the Saundersfoot Carnival Queen at a disco held at the club. The disco was provided by Wacky Wayne's Disco and an enjoyable evening was had by everyone. After a difficult decision by the judges, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith, the following were chosen. Carnival Queen - Lauren Williams, with Emily Mielke and Leah Thomas as her attendants; Fairy Queen - Ffion Davies, with Caitlin Thomas and Jessica Booton as her attendants; Carnival King - Matthew Williams, with William Davies chosen as Prince Charming. The carnival this year will be held on Sunday, August 6, on the King George V Playing Field, starting at 2 pm.

CRICKET

The 1st XI had an exciting tie with Llangwm on Saturday. Batting first, Llangwm amassed 183 for 8 in their 45 overs, main contributors being A. Harries (48) and G. Bevan (25 n.o.). Wicket-takers for Saundersfoot were Danny Caine (3-34) and Dickie Parcell (4-56). The Saundersfoot reply looked well on track at 163-4 with five overs left, but wickets fell and with the score tied, Saundersfoot still had two wickets in hand. The winning run proved elusive and Kevin Sykes and Chris Parker were run out on the two last balls of the innings to tie the match. The 2nd XI were unfortunate against Narberth III and had to settle for a losing draw. Narberth's total of 199 proved too much for the young Saundersfoot team and they finished on 145-9. Narberth were indebted to 1st team player Kyle Quartermaine, who scored 97 of the 199 runs, before being caught magnificently by Joe Morris on the boundary going for his century. The wicket-takers for Saundersfoot were David Dunfee 3-33, Yannic Parker 2-36 and Joe Duffy 2 -24. The Saundersfoot run-gatherers were Joe Duffy (25), Paul Brooks (21), Richard Thomas (26) and Yannic Parker (32). This was a good all-round team effort and deserved more than a losing draw.

ORMOND YOUTH PLATE

Saundersfoot U17s reached the semi-final of the Plate Competition when they defeated Cresselly on Friday night by 37 runs. Simon Stanford and Paul Brooks gave them a good start with an opening stand of 80, with Brooks scoring 33 runs. Yannic Parker (13) and Joe Kidney (17) had partnerships with Stanford and the innings closed on 174 for 4, with Stanford 71 not out with 10 fours and a six to his credit. The Cresselly reply lost its momentum when S. Allen-Clark (32) and Scott Arthur (30) were out and finished 37 runs short on 137 for 9. Grant Hardy, Andrew Evans, Yannic Parker and David Dunfee all had a wicket each, while Joe Kidney finished with 2 for 10. The junior teams had a poor week, with the U15s narrowly losing to Stackpole. The U13s lost to a very good Lechryd side, while the U11s had a close game with Carew U11s.
