DARTS

Friday night was Presentation Night and 1001 Knockout, which was held at the Kilgetty Sports Club.

In the first round of the 1001 KO, the A and B teams were drawn against each other. The B team were the 2-0 winners in this epic encounter against a weakened A team.

In the next round, the B team narrowly lost to the ultimate winners, the Greenbridge Inn.

At the end of the evening, the A team collected their trophies for being the league runners-up and 180 medals were collected by Mike James, Mike Jones and Geoff Titterton.

The darts season has now finished until next September.

CRICKET

It was another bad weekend for the beleaguered cricket club. The first team lost to Burton by 67 runs, while the second team lost by 24 runs to Llangwm III's.

Against Burton, the toss was lost by Saundersfoot and Burton elected to bat, reaching 242-8 in their allotted overs. Burton recovered from 8-2 after eight overs, with all their middle order batsmen scoring runs.

The leading wicket-taker for Saundersfoot was young Andrew Evans with 3-43 and Dickie Parcell had 2-45.

In reply, Saundersfoot stuttered to 66 for 5, before Ian Poole (54) and Dickie Parcell (34) added 84 for the sixth wicket. However, once they departed, the innings quickly closed on 175.

The 2nd XI were at Llangwm III's, who batted first and scored 230 for 6 in their 40 overs. L. Rees (95 n.o) and S. Thomas (66) scored the majority of the Llangwm runs, with all the Saundersfoot bowlers sharing the wickets.

Saundersfoot started well, with Roger Stanford (48) and Richard Haines (22) adding 67 for the first wicket. Joe Kidney (27), Paul Morris (41) and Chris Hawkes (39) all contributed to the Saundersfoot score, but the Llangwm total proved to be too high for Saundersfoot.

On Sunday, Saundersfoot entertained a team from Frome. Ably captained on the day by John Morgan, the very young Saundersfoot side gave a good account of themselves, with good scores coming from Joe Kidney, Paul Brooks and Simon Stanford. In the end, Frome just squeezed home, reaching the Saundersfoot total in the last over.

Next week, Midsummer Madness reaches Saundersfoot, with a series of events being held in the Regency Hall organised by the Saundersfoot Chamber of Tourism, but held by various organisations in the village.

Bingo will be held as usual on Tuesday night, eyes down at 8 pm. Last week saw the passing of Aelwyn Griffiths. 'Griff' was chairman of the club until ill health prevented him from continuing in office. During his spell as chairman he saw the club progress from an unstable position to that of healthy position, both in terms of membership and a healthy balance sheet. He will be missed greatly by all his friends at the club.
