On Saturday night/Sunday morning, Saundersfoot Sea Angling Club held a sponsored rover to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance Service.

There was an excellent turnout, with 19 anglers competing for all 12 hours, including four juniors.

Every competitor who signed on with their sponsor form (everybody, I think) received a voucher for The Pembrokeshire Tackle Terminal, of Cosheston and Saundersfoot.

Every competitor weighed in (when did that happen last?) showing dogfish, bass, codling, silver eel, gurnard, garfish and flounder, and most fish that weren't taken home for the pot were returned alive.

Thanks again to Jeff and Julie at the Captain's Table for providing coffee and hot beef and onion baguettes at the weigh in.

Results were: 1. Tom Wright (J) with a bass of 2.946kg (10 points and a £50 angling voucher); 2. the winner's dad, Jamie Wright, with a bag of 3.474kg (eight points and a voucher for £25); 3. Mike Williams with a bag of 2.200kg (six points and a voucher for £15); 4. Tony O'Neil with a bag of 1.986kg (four points)

The Golden Peg was number 11, that of Marie Knowles, who did not compete. The rollover continues.

All match fees were donated to the Air Ambulance and all prizes were provided by the club. With match fees and sponsorship collected and promised to date, the club collected nearly £1,500 for our chosen charity. A fantastic effort, who knows when such a service will be needed by ourselves/family/friends. This is another vital service with no government financial support. The strong support of our members is to a large extent due to the continued support of our own match sponsors who help us a great deal in maintaining membership numbers. Thank you to all who support and maintain an interest in Saundersfoot Sea Angling Club.

Forthcoming matches: Sunday, September 26 - two-rod, Pendine Beach, sponsored by John Davies, of Suregas. Sign on at the Sports Club 12.45 - 1 pm, fishing 2 - 7 pm, weigh in at the Chemist Inn, with scales closing at 8 pm sharp. £100 fist prize, £50 second.

The annual dinner and presentation evening will be in January - date and venue to be confirmed.
