The first match of the New Year was extremely breezy for members of Saundersfoot Sea Angling Club, with 35 mph winds blowing in members' faces on Pendine beach. Fishing was good, with 11 out of 14 anglers weighing in - it would have been 12, but Mel Matthews lost his catch when a wave turned over his bucket. Winner was Rob Collins with a bass of 970g (10 points and £40), second was James Canton with a bag of flounder weighing 2.71kg (eight points and £20) and third with a bag of flounder weighing 1.31kg was Wayne Williams (six points and £5). Fourth place and four points went to Ben Edwards with a bag of 1.06kg The next SSAC matches are: Sunday, January 21, on Saundersfoot beach for the Captain's Table Trophy, with a first prize of £100 - sign on 12.15 - 12.30 pm outside the pub, fishing 1 to 5 pm, scales close 5.30 pm prompt at the Captain's Table; Sunday, February 11, a Cleddau Rover (upstream of the Cleddau Bridge only) - sign on at the Sports Club 8 - 8.15 am, fishing 9 am to 1 pm, scales closing at the Captain's Table at 2 pm prompt; Sunday, February 18, a Flatfish Rover, with signing on at the Sports Club 11.15 - 11.30 am, fishing from 12.30 - 5.30 pm, scales close 6.30 pm prompt at the Chemist Inn. Do not forget that there is a meeting at the Sports Club on the first Wednesday of every month, when the match venues are arranged for the following month. The next meeting is on February 7 at 8 pm.
