Coppet Week 2008 Despite the weather conditions, Saundersfoot Sailing Club hosted a very successful Coppet Week with five out of six races held and 65 competitors entering. A good time was had by all on the water in challenging conditions and then back in the clubhouse for a full social programme which included a live band, a quiz night by master of quizmasters Rolfe John and an indoor BBQ due to weather conditions! All races were run from the end of the harbour so this provided an exciting spectacle for the village's visitors. The RNLI Pennant Race this year was won by Robin Wood. All money for entries is donated to the RNLI and a cheque was passed on to them. On behalf of the committee I would like to thank the helpers on and off the water for all their hard work and team spirit. Without these helpers we would not be able to run Coppet Week. The Coppet Week Champions 2008 were Richard Dee and Phil Scott, of Blithfield, in a Merlin Rocket. Fast Handicap Fleet: 1. Richard Dee and Phil Scott, Blithfield; 2. Keith McDonald and Andy Brittain, Blithfield; 3. Alex and Jon Bales, Spinnaker and Chew; 4. Chris Martin and Ben Torrens, Blithfield; 5. Lynon Beasley and Tim Dicker, Greensforge. Slow Handicap Fleet: 1. Paul Young and Sioban Pearson, Midland; 2. Mike Whittaker and Marty Beenan, South Staffs; 3. Paul Griffiths, Saundersfoot!; 4. Niall Campbell and Jane Smee, Arden; 5. Ian and Ben Fryatt, Llandegfedd. First Saundersfoot helm - Paul Griffiths (Solo). Sail Training
The sail training spring raffle was drawn on Bank Holiday Monday. It was very successful and raised around £185 for sail training equipment. Prizes were donated by Dale Sailing, Folly Farm, the Gwili Railway Company, Picton Castle, Vincent Davies, Heatherton, Ocean Hair, Frosts and the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven. Beginners
We are now fully subscribed for this season and we have almost a 50/50 mix of adults and children. This is very encouraging as these trainees are the future of the sailing club. This week's beginners session starts at 8.30 am. If you would like to join sail training in 2009, names are now being taken. For further details, please contact Tina on 812383.
