On Saturday, Saundersfoot Sailing Club played host to a meeting of 'CYRC' - no, neither a secret society nor a new department of Social Services - the Club Youth Racing Circuit of the West Wales section of the RYA. It visits each local sailing venue in turn and provides young sailors with opportunities to race against the best of their local peers and on a variety of courses. There was an excellent entry of 28 young sailors (20 Toppers, four Optimists and four Lasers), eight of which were our own members and a good indication of the robust health of Junior sailing at Saundersfoot Sailing Club. James North again showed his developing talent by winning the Topper event, with Alex Hamilton earning an excellent fourth place. Govan Berridge confirmed the skills he demonstrated in the Coppet Week Regatta, coming a close second in the CYRC Laser event, and going on to win the club race on Sunday from Paul Griffiths, also sailing a Laser.
Junior Regatta
The Juniors have an opportunity to do it all again tomorrow (Saturday), when the Club Junior Regatta is due to start at 3 pm. It is hoped that all Juniors will join in - it is their event of the year.
Sail Training
This seems an appropriate time to remind readers that Saundersfoot Sailing Club is a RYA Recognised Training Centre. We hold sail training on most Saturdays throughout the summer months. We offer tuition from qualified RYA instructors, with the opportunity to attain RYA qualifications, as well as the use of club facilities abd training boats. Anyone who can swim and is eight years or over at the beginning of April 2005 can join. For further information, please contact Tina on 07818293954.
