CLUB CHAMPONSHIP
IN MELTING POT
Dinghy racing continued on Sunday with race six in the late series. The club championship will be decided over the next couple of weekends. The final race in the late season series will be held on Sunday, September 29. All competitors are pushing hard to earn those extra points to push themselves up the league table, and the next few weekends will see the pace warming up at the front of the fleet. Watch out for those penalty turns.
Sunday, and race officers Trevor and Norma found a fleet of 12 dinghies contesting Amroth, Monkstone and Harbour with a force 2 SW wind. The race began with a steady force 2 prevailing, but this gradually decreased in the warm evening and the race was shortened to two laps.
Nick and Govan are now becoming a competitive team with their RS800 and finished a clear 10 minutes in front of the fleet. However, they had to settle for second place behind the young and up and coming Andrew with his Laser after handicaps had been applied. Third spot this week went to Paul in his Laser, taking a break from crewing with his brother John in their Fireball.
TRAINEES
SHORE BOUND
Last Saturday, due to the adverse weather conditions, sail trainees were unable to venture onto the water; instead the opportunity was taken to brush up on shore based skills.
With the end of season, and the awarding of certificates approaching, it is important that all sail trainees attend as many of the sessions left as possible in order that all log books are brought up to date in order that the correct certificates can be awarded at the laying-up supper and presentation of prizes.
Please contact Tina on 01834 812383 for information on sail training activities.
Sail training for weekend Saturday, September 14: Beginners 1 - 9.45 - 11.15 am; Beginners 2 - 11.15 am - 12.30 pm; Improvers/Saturday Club - 12.30 - 2.30 pm.
