FRIDAY

Last Friday evening in the clubhouse there was an informal discussion on racing. Please make a note that each friday there will be something happening in or around the clubhouse. In weeks when the tide is in we will meet at 5 pm for a sail and when the tide is out we will meet at 7.30 pm for a meaningful discussion regarding sailing. Working on that principle we hope so see lots of sailors at 5 pm this evening.

SAIL TRAINING

Last Saturday provided ideal conditions for the first beginners' session. Over 20 new sail trainees ventured out onto the water where everyone enjoyed a friendly and relaxed introduction to dinghy sailing, Saundersfoot style.

The breeze gradually picked up for both the improvers and Saturday Club sessions, providing the trainees with the perfect conditions to put all that theory into practice.

Sail training this Saturday will be from 2.30 - 5 pm for beginners, from 5 - 6 pm for improvers and from 6 - 7 pm for the Saturday Club.

Note: On arrival at the clubhouse will all the Improvers /Saturday Club members please check the downstairs notice board.

RACING

Last Sunday two races were scheduled for 12.30 and it was great to see 15 dinghies head out into the bay. With a NE Force 4 and Tina set a starboard course of APHx3.

After some glitches, the race got underway and while two of the Toppers opted for 'plain sailing' rather than racing, Nick J in his Contender retired having broken his rudder extension.

Once handicaps were applied, Leighton in his RS 300 took first place, with John and Paul in their Fireball coming second, followed by Trevor and Norma in their Graduate taking third place.

The conditions remained the same for race two, so the course was not changed, but Nick J. had now transferred to a Topper. Graham in his Solo, who also broke his rudder extension in the first race but was able to continue, decided he had given his arms enough stretching exercise and retired after the start.

After handicaps were applied, Mark in his Dart 15 took first place, John and Paul in their Fireball took second place and Leighton in his RS 300 came third. I must mention here that Nick J. in his son's Topper was only one second behind the RS 300, showing just how well Toppers do perform.

There were several capsizes throughout and as yours truly had the use of a digital camera, these will be published on our website as soon as possible!

Racing this Sunday is at 5 pm due to the late tide and we look forward to seeing all our regulars out there in the bay.

WHIST

A room full of happy people keen to spend the evening occupied in one of their favourite pastimes; that was the scene in the clubhouse last Monday for the regular whist evening.

Highest score of the evening went to L. Murray.

First lady, B. Stroud; second lady, M. Whitaker; first gent, B. Davies; second gent, V. Burrows; lowest score, H. Buckley; longest sitter, R. Jones.

Monday whist will continue throughout the summer and newcomers will be made welcome, so if you would like to join us, please do come along. Doors open 7 pm and the game starts at 7.30 pm.

HELP

REQUIRED

Most of you are aware that the club is run entirely by volunteers and we are always glad of more help on and off water, every week. If you would like to get involved in a worthwhile pastime, then please come along to the club over the weekend and chat to a committee member.

With our annual Coppet Week fast approaching, we are looking for help all round, beach master, patrol (on water), registration (in the clubhouse), race officer (on the wall!), galley staff (in the kitchen), tally board (ashore), all sorts of tasks need to be covered as we like to get as many of our sailors as possible out sailing. The whole week is great fun and any help is much appreciated so come along and join us.
