Last Friday evening was the prize giving for the recent Cruiser Regatta, but unfortunately most of our cruiser sailors had commitments elsewhere. However, Tenby SC cruiser owners were able to attend.
The RNLI Pennant was awarded to Geoff Powell in Tejeda, from Tenby Sailing Club, who took first place in the round Caldey Race.
The Tywi Damp Proofing Trophy for the first Saundersfoot cruiser was awarded to Bryn Jones in Celtic Star.
The overall Regatta winner was Tejeda, of Tenby, who took away the Jones and Teague Cup, with Slipstream in second place and Amphora in third place.
The Denver Engineering Cup for the first Saundersfoot cruiser was awarded to Rolfe John in Twm Barlwm.
Congratulations to Tenby on their excellent results and thanks to everyone who took part in the weekend.
SAIL TRAINING
Tomorrow (Saturday) beginners will meet from 9-11 am, Saturday Club and Improvers from 11 am to 1 pm.
LADY HELM
The annual Lady Helm Race will start at 5.30 pm tomorrow (Saturday). We look forward to seeing all our lady sailors out for this event.
SUNDAY RACING
Last Sunday was a glorious sunny day leading some members to believe that there would be no wind on the water; this was not the case and two races were run in a reasonable wind.
There was a good turnout of 12 dinghies and for race one the course was set at MPH x 3. However, it was necessary to shorten this, letting the Toppers finish after one lap and the rest of the fleet completed two laps. After handicaps were applied, there was a tie for third place between Malcolm in the Comet Duo and Trevor and Norma in their Graduate. Second place went to Andrew in his Laser and first place to John and Paul in their Fireball.
For race two, the course was changed to a figure-of-eight course of MPH x 3 that gave the faster dinghies the chance to complete the three laps, with the Solo and Topper finishing after two laps.
After handicaps were applied, third place went to Malcolm in the Comet Duo, with John and Paul in their Fireball in second place and Trevor and Norma in their Graduate took first place.
Racing this Sunday is at 6 pm, so you will all have time to soak up the sun beforehand.
CRUISER RACING
Details of races being held this Sunday can be found in the clubhouse window or by contacting our cruiser captain on (01834) 814633.
MONDAY WHIST
An excellent turnout again this week, but still room for more players, so why not come along and join our happy whisters who will make you welcome. Game starts prompt at 7.30 pm.
Highest score - E. Jones; first lady - M. Whitaker; second lady - G. Irvine; first gent - J. Davies; second gent - R. Irvine.
Cards had to be cut for longest sitter, and that went to J. Davies. Lowest score - Thelma.
WEDNESDAY EVENINGS
Don't forget to come along early for this session that covers, well basically whatever you want it to cover!
LARK NATIONALS
The Lark Nationals are being held at our club from August 18 to 24; this will be a very busy and lucrative week for us. We already have several volunteers to help in the clubhouse, but still need more helpers throughout the week, so if you can spare some time to assist please let us know. There will be lots of activity every day, both on and off the water, so we would like to involve as many club members as possible in what promises to be a hectic but fun week.
We are also looking for a fridge we can borrow for the week - any offers?
Happy sailing.
