Sail training times tomorrow (Saturday) are:
Saturday Club from 10 am - 12 noon; beginners from 12 noon - 2 pm and improvers from 2-4 pm.
There was no dinghy racing last weekend because of the cruiser regatta. This Sunday there will be two races starting at 1 pm.
It was great to see a near full house for the whist session last Monday evening - everyone had a good game and as usual appreciated the splendid view from the clubhouse.
Highest score - J. Davies; first lady - G. Irvine; second lady - J. Davies; first gent - F. Buckley; second gent - B. Walker; lowest score - V. Burrows; longest sitter - E. Jones.
We can still accommodate more players, so if you would like to join us come along on Monday, game starts prompt at 7.30 pm.
Next weekend, Saturday, August 4, there will be the annual Lady Helm race which starts at 5.30 pm.
Congratulations to Tenby Sailing Club on their appearance on Hot Pursuits last weekend. It was good to see familiar faces on the screen.
We look forward to seeing you in the clubhouse over the weekend. Happy sailing.
LANDLUBBER
Cruiser Regatta 2001
Last weekend, the dinghy sailors had a rest while the cruiser members went into action with their annual two-day regatta.
A grey, windy morning on Saturday saw six boats, three from Saundersfoot Sailing Club and three from Tenby Sailing Club, competing for the RNLI Pennant (all race proceeds to the RNLI) in a Round Caldey race that proved both testing and exciting in the strong winds and rough seas in Caldey Sound and off West Beacon Point.
At the Lighthouse, Tejeda (Tenby Sailing Club) and Celtic Star (Saundersfoot Sailing Club) were neck and neck, but once round the island the spinnaker of Tejeda pulled her steadily away on the long run home to finish five minutes ahead of the Saundersfoot boat. Once handicaps were applied, Tejeda was first, Amphora (Tenby Sailing Club) was second, Celtic Star third, and Chantelle fourth. One boat from each club retired.
On Saturday evening, an excellent barbecue was held outside the clubhouse. It was well attended and the weather remained dry until all the food had been eaten when we all retired to the bar for a well earned drink.
Sunday brought somewhat lighter winds and the odd spell of sunshine, bringing out a total of nine boats for three races. A course round DZ1, DZ2 and home saw some fast boat speeds, but unfortunately not a true beat and although Tejeda was home first, she was beaten into third place by Slipstream (first) and Amphora (second), all these being Tenby boats.
For the afternoon, the race officer set two races around strategically placed marks, the first for three laps and the second for two, making all competitors work a bit harder. Once again the Tenby boats dominated the fleet, with Tejeda and Slipstream taking first and second place, respectively, in both races. Aries (Tenby Sailing Club) being third in the first afternoon race and Amphora finishing third in the other.
With one discard being allowed from the weekend's four races, the Jones and Teague Cup for the overall regatta winner went to Tejeda, second place to Slipstream and third to Amphora. The highest Saundersfoot overall position was Twm Barlwm in fifth place. Well done Rolfe! The Tywi Damp Proofing Trophy for the first Saundersfoot boat in the Round Caldey race was won by Celtic Star.
The prizegiving for this event will be held at 9 pm today (Friday) at the clubhouse. We hope as many as possible will attend. Many thanks to all competitors who made the weekend such an enjoyable event and to all those who assisted as race officers, their helpers, the ferry boat drivers and the cordon bleu standard chefs at the barbecue.
