AIR TRAINING

Tomorrow (Saturday), the Saturday Club sailors meet from 9-11 am, with beginners at 11 am - 1 pm and improvers at 2-4 pm.

SUNDAY RACING

Last weekend there was a diminished fleet due to various other activities, but that did not detract from the eagerness of the fleet to race. There were 11 sailors in eight dinghies and a fair wind in the bay. The course was set at MHx3 for the first race with a change to APHx3 for race two of the day.

After handicaps were applied, Tonia and John in the Graduate took first place in both races. In race one, Malcolm in the Comet Duo took second place, with Alistair in his Laser taking third place. In race two, Trevor and Gemma in the Graduate came in to take second place and only three seconds behind in third place was Malcolm in the Comet Duo.

There will be no racing this Sunday as it is the annual Cruiser Regatta.

CRUISER REGATTA

The cruisers will be enjoying their own regatta this weekend with the RNLI Cruiser Pennant race on Saturday and a longer race, hopefully around Caldey Island, on Sunday.

There will be a barbecue at the clubhouse for sailors and non-sailors on Saturday evening. Please join us for this.

Check the clubhouse for full details or ring our cruiser captain on 814633.

WHIST

The Monday whisters again enjoyed an evening of their favourite game along with the most pleasant view from the clubhouse window.

Results were as follows: highest score - E. Buckley; first lady - G. Irvine; second lady - Y. Tingle; first gent - F. Buckley; second gent - R. Irvine; longest sitter - H. Buckley; lowest score - V. Burrows.

There is always room for more players, so if you would like to come along and join us please do so. Game starts prompt at 7.30 pm.

WEDNESDAY EVENINGS

Anyone who wants to learn more about racing skills and tactics should come along to the clubhouse on Wednesday evenings when there will be on and off water activities.

BUILDING PLANS

Please check out the revised plan for the building work that is on display in the clubhouse. This is hopefully the final draft, so we hope everyone is happy with it.

Don't forget the Building Fund, our treasurer will gladly accept your donations at a time convenient to you.

LARK NATIONALS

We are looking for volunteers to help in the clubhouse during the Lark Nationals that are being held at our club from August 18 to 24. The Galley and Bar need helpers throughout the week, so if you can spare some time to assist in this worthy cause, please let us know. There will be lots of activity every day, both on and off the water, so we would like to involve as many club members as possible in what promises to be a hectic bit of fun.

We are also looking for a fridge we can borrow for the week - any offers?

STORM

CHAOS

While writing this there are still very strong winds that have caused some anxious moments over the last couple of days. All eyes around the harbour have kept a keen eye on various craft and helped whenever possible. One of our cruisers was moored outside the harbour, but along with a fishing boat, broke its mooring line on Tuesday morning. Luckily the two craft did not collide as they were swept towards the beach. The owners were quickly alerted to the problem and were soon on hand to attend to their craft. Heavy seas and high winds made moving the boats impossible, so it was a matter of waiting for suitable conditions. The calm before high tide early on Wednesday morning allowed the cruiser to be boarded and brought safely into the harbour with only water damage, much to the relief of its owner. Special thanks from Ray and Trevor to all those people who willingly came and offered their assistance, your help was very much appreciated.
