SAIL TRAINING
There will be no sail training this weekend, as most of our instructors and helpers will be at Tenby SC to take part in their annual Regatta.
JUNIOR REGATTA
Unfortunately this planned event had to be postponed due to the rough conditions out in the bay. Watch this space for further details.
SUNDAY RACING
It was a superb scene, the cruisers, dinghies, fishing boats and pleasure craft out in the bay on a lovely sunny day.
The fleet was smaller than usual for the two races last Sunday, with only six dinghies in race one and seven in race two. The course was set at MPH x 3, but was shortened in both races because of low wind, with the whole fleet completing two laps each.
Results for race one were Andrew in his Laser in first place, Trevor and Norma in their Graduate in second place, with Malcolm in his Comet Duo taking third place. For race two, first and second places were the same, with Nick in his Contender taking third place.
There is no racing at Saundersfoot this Sunday as we are hopefully all going over to support Tenby SC at their annual Regatta.
WHIST
It was another good evening of cards playing in the clubhouse last Monday evening, prior to which players could be seen admiring the lovely scenery, playing pool or watching a demonstration of card tricks.
Highest score - J. Davies; first lady - M. Whitaker; cards had to be cut for second lady that then went to E. Jones; first gent - W. Whitaker; second gent - R. Irvine; lowest score - M. Atkins; longest sitter - F. Buckley.
I apologise for the fact that every week the raffle prizes are won, but I neglect to make a note of the winners names so am unable to report them. I will try to do better in future.
CRUISER RACE
SSC V TSC
Between the two dinghy races the race officer started an inter-club cruiser race between Saundersfoot SC and Tenby SC, setting the same course (MxPxHx3) as the dinghies (writes Seafarer).
Eight cruisers started, five from Tenby and three from Saundersfoot, ranging in size from the 20-foot Hawk to the magnificent 33-foot She 33, Vixen, both from Tenby.
The start fell into two parts, with four boats getting away cleanly, with the remainder (including all three Saundersfoot competitors) getting lost and crossing the line considerably later. A game of catch-up then followed, but the Hawk and Vixen were having none of it and led the fleet throughout the race.
A falling wind and a short neap tide prompted the race officer to shorten the course to two laps and Vixen took line honours from the Hawk by 24 seconds. Martin Woodall in Sapphire (SSC) sailed well to move up the fleet and be the third boat to finish, but his handicap, as theoretically the fastest boat racing, put him into seventh place on corrected time. Rolfe John in Twm Barlwm put in the best results for Saundersfoot, finishing third on handicap. Well done, Rolfe. John Miller sailing Sea Fever (SSC) single-handed managed to stay with the bulk of the fleet and was placed sixth overall.
Once handicaps had been applied, the Hawk took first place and Vixen second. The Tenby Pandora, Aries, was placed fourth. With three boats from each club scoring, Tenby SC won the event with seven points (1st, 2nd, and 4th places), with Saundersfoot SC clocking up 16 points (3rd, 6th, 7th places).
Try getting to the start on time in future, fellas! Well done Tenby, we look forward to our next race.
