SAIL TRAINING

Tomorrow (Saturday), beginners group is from 11 am - 1 pm, with improvers from 2 - 5 pm.

SUNDAY RACING

It was an early start again last week and due to the tide there was only one race. There were 16 sailors in 11 dinghies, a splendid sight in the bay as usual. The course was set at MPH x 3, with the leading dinghy completing the first lap in 15:03 minutes.

As the water was flowing from the harbour quite quickly, the course was shortened so that the majority of the fleet only completed two laps, while the Fireball was able to do a third.

After handicaps were applied, the results were: Andrew in his Laser in third place, John and Paul in their Fireball in first place and in second place our very own dinghy captain, Nick Johns in his Contender, who must have been really chuffed with himself for keeping upright (most of the time) and gaining a much longed for position - keep it up Nick!

The best performance of the day actually came from someone on dry land - whilst Malcolm was officially 'officer of the day', he was ably assisted by daughter Kathryn, who showed what she was worth. Kathryn, who is 11-years-old, recorded dinghies on the water, lap times, finishing times, then with a minimum of instruction, completed the calculations to determine the actual results and topped it all by writing the results into the book in a most legible hand. Well done Kathryn.

This Sunday there are two races starting at 2 pm. We look forward to a good turnout again.

WHIST

Monday Whist again saw a happy group of players and some new players were welcomed in. Highest scorer - G. Irvine; first lady - M. Whitaker; second lady - H. Buckley; first gent - R. Irvine; second gent - R. Jones; lowest score - J. Pollock.

The cards had to be cut several times to determine the winner of the longest sitter prize and it eventually went to D. Nickalas.

Anyone who would like to join in, please come along to the club on Monday evening, game starts prompt at 7.30 pm.

JUNIOR REGATTA

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the annual Junior Regatta at 1 pm. Although some juniors are unable to change their work hours to take part, we look forward to seeing lots of dinghies on the water to join in the three races of the day.

As I mentioned last week, this is now underway and looking forward to a boost from you, so please let us have your donations. There is a list in the clubhouse for any fund-raising ideas you may have - please help us in this, it is your club and the changes will benefit everyone.
