Firstly, I must apologise for an omission last week, I failed to mention our social evening with Tenby Sailing Club members as our guests. I would just like to say it was a pleasure to entertain you all, thank you for joining us. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

SAIL TRAINING

Last Friday the youngsters from Saundersfoot Primary School years 5 and 6 were invited to the Club for a dry introduction to sailing. The weather allowed Instructors to demonstrate outside how to rig a training "Oppie" by Angela, a standard Oppie by Simon, and a Topper by Anita, with Press Officer Tricia using the camera. Teacher and regular Club safety boat operator Mick Booth had put together a booklet with nautical questions for the youngsters to answer. The group of 70 children and adults enjoyed a biscuit and drink in the Clubhouse before returning to School. Anyone wanting to have a taster of sailing was advised to firstly get parental agreement, then join the next group of beginners in early July. Tomorrow (Saturday) current beginners meet from 10.30 - 13.00 hrs.

Improvers meet at the later time of 17.00-20.00 hrs.

A GOOD LARK

It was a good weekend all round. There were six races over the two days and, although on Sunday the start had to be postponed while we waited for some wind to come in, everything went smoothly and all had a jolly good time.

The sailors were most impressed with the committee boat crew that not only competently ran the races but also made coffee, provided nicotine relief for sailors as well as catching mackerel for supper!

We look forward to welcoming a larger fleet of Lark dinghies in August when we are hosting their Nationals at our club.

As with all our events it takes a lot of manpower to run them so if you are interesting in becoming involved in any way then contact one of our Committee Members - it really can be fun.

WHIST

Last Monday there was a smaller turnout than usual for our Whist session but those that turned up still enjoyed their evening.

Highest scorer: 1. M. Atkins; 2. H. Buckley; 3. R. Jones with Eric taking the booby prize.

There will be no game this Monday (28), so the next game is on June 4, starting at 7.30 pm prompt. If you would like to join in please come along, you do not have to be a club member.

COPPET WEEK

This annual event is upon us again, starting with the RNLI Pennant and Coppet Week Race 1 at 10.00 hrs on Sunday.

Racing will continue through the week and we look forward to seeing all our regular friends and hopefully some new ones joining us for what we hope will be a week of perfect sailing conditions. Check out the clubhouse for details of race times and also social event. The clubhouse will be open all week so come along and join us.

Again, this event could not take place without volunteers to help out. Whether it is signing in sailors, crewing patrol boats, helping the Race Officer or just taking a cruiser out onto the course there is always a task for anyone who can help and that help will be much appreciated by everyone. So some along and see us in the clubhouse on Friday night and let us find you a function.
