The benefits of being a Rotary member include fellowship, friendship and a common purpose in helping communities at home and elsewhere. Since lockdown, the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot has been unable to conduct its regular Monday meetings at the Wiseman’s Bridge Inn, but with the help of Rotarian Steve John the club has been holding remote meetings using the medium of Zoom, thereby enabling members to maintain contact and fellowship.
The Rotary year is from the beginning of July to the end of June the following year. The changeover of president has taken place, chain of office passed on, still maintaining social distancing, and the new president, Rotarian Norman Goddard, chaired last Monday’s remote meeting.
New president-elect, meanwhile, is Rotarian John?Walker-Smith.
Monday’s meeting was, of course, unable to make any plans for community activities or fund-raising events.
“Our usual activities have been badly hit by Covid-19, so no duck races, BBQs, pig roasts or other fund-raising events have been possible during this period,” stated immediate past president Brian?Jenkins. “We have been very impressed by the community spirit, when people have got together in order to help the more vulnerable within the local society.
“Hopefully, and there are signs that things are improving, people who have volunteered during the crisis may want to continue to use some of their time to help others. To facilitate this, Saundersfoot Rotary Club would welcome new male and female members so that they can continue to do the excellent work they have already achieved. You can be absolutely sure, post Covid-19 there will be more vulnerable people, the elderly, the homeless, disabled and the unemployed who will desperately need help as this country re-stabilises.”
Monday’s meeting finished with a sincere and unanimous thanks and congratulations to Rotarian Brian for his 12-month tenure as president, leading the club by example, with tremendous energy, creativity and a passion for helping others. A true reflection of the Rotary motto ‘Service above Self’.
If you would like to know more about Rotary and want to serve your community, or help at events (when they can be held), please contact club secretary, Rotarian Brian Waters by telephone, 01834 813655 or by emailing [email protected].
‘We look forward to meeting and greeting you’.
