World Polio Eradication - Earlier in the year the local Rotary group were busy planting purple crocus corms in various sites within the village, with all to benefit from the splash of colour from these beautiful delicate flowers.

This year, mother nature has provided one of the best displays that the Rotary Club has had up to this date.

In previous years planting took place at the Regency Hall, St Issells Church, the Sensory Garden, and the area around the New Hedges roundabout.

This year with the permission of the various landowners the Rotary Club were able to plant at the Medical Centre, and the Methodist Church under the guidance of their in house gardening expert Rotarian Lionel Allen.

The exercise of planting purple crocuses is symbolic of the purple painting of little finger (pinky) of the children which is painted purple to show who has received the vaccine and ensure no-one was missed.

Money raised during this venture and on World Polio Eradication Day (October 24) is donated to the World Health Organisation, who ensure that the monies go to the stated cause.

Together we see where people unite and take action to create lasting improvements across the globe.

Ukraine support - Rotary International has shown strong feeling against the war that has been imposed upon the people of Ukraine.

Everyone has seen too vividly through the media the recent destruction and the horrendous plight of families being split and forced to leave their homes and take refuge in neighbouring countries.

Saundersfoot Rotary have made a donation of £1,000 to Rotary Foundation UK to help those people fleeing for their lives. Rotarians shall also be undertaking bucket collections to give local people the opportunity to help these suffering families. Please be generous with your financial gifts.

If you wish to make a donation direct to Rotary concerning the fleeing Ukrainian citizens, please contact Club Treasurer Rob Talboys on 01834 814424 who will be happy to help.
