Saundersfoot Rotary Club has saluted two local charities with donations of £500 to each, in recognition of their extraordinary contributions.
On June 6, members and friends of the Rotary Club embarked on a 10-mile sponsored walk from Haverfordwest to Neyland in support of two remarkable local charities - the Paul Sartori Foundation and the Yaki Da Boi Project.
The event was organised to raise both awareness and funds for these impactful organisations, each doing vital work in the Pembrokeshire community.
Rotarians were honoured to welcome representatives from both charities at a recent Rotary event - Jo Lutwyche, Community Relationship Officer for the Paul Sartori Foundation, and Clare Sturman, founder of the Yaki Da Boi Project.
The Paul Sartori Foundation is a registered charity offering hospice-at-home services for people in the later stages of life-limiting illnesses. Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, the foundation provides specialised care, emotional support, and practical help for patients and their families.
Their mission is to allow people to live their final days with dignity and comfort in their own homes—a truly essential service for the community.
The Yaki Da Boi Project, founded by Clare Sturman in January 2024, was born from personal tragedy following the loss of Clare’s son, Sam, to suicide at the age of 19.
Sam’s struggles with drug use and its impact on his mental health inspired Clare to create a youth-focused initiative aimed at supporting young people in Pembrokeshire.
The project, based in Narberth, provides regular drop-in sessions, outdoor challenges, and soon, educational workshops in schools, clubs, and with parents—creating safe spaces for open conversations around drugs, alcohol, and mental health.
The project recently received a National Lottery Community Fund grant, enabling it to expand its reach and continue its mission of empowering young people to make healthy, informed choices.
Ray Wise of Saundersfoot Rotary Club said: “Jo and Clare, your tireless work is a beacon of hope in our community. We salute your courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment and it is our pleasure to support your causes with this donation.”
The Saundersfoot Rotary Club remains committed to supporting local initiatives and is proud to stand beside organisations that make such a profound difference in people’s lives.
This year, the Club marks 50 years of service to the local community and beyond, as since its formation in 1974, the Club has played a key role in the life of the seaside village - championing local causes, supporting international development, and bringing people together through service, fundraising, friendship, and action.
Over five decades, Saundersfoot Rotary has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities, helped deliver community projects, and supported generations of residents through youth programmes, healthcare funding, and aid to those in need.
As the club marks this milestone golden jubilee, it looks forward to working with residents, visitors, and new members to help shape the next half century and continue living up to its founding principles - service above self, community before all!
Saundersfoot Rotary is as relevant today as it was at it’s inception.
