The Rotary Club of Saundersfoot celebrated its 47th Charter Night Celebration at St Brides Spa Hotel recently.

The president and members of the club were pleased to invite friends and guests from Tenby Rotary Club as well as members from Tenby Inner Wheel to the occasion on April 24.

The evening proved to be a great success with an excellent service and meal provided by the Hotel.

The top table consisted of president Brian Jenkins his wife Christine; the two guest speakers Major Wayne Morgan MBE ( District Governor of District 1150); Mr. Peter Kraus (Chairman of West Wales Maritime Heritage Society based in Pembroke Dock); Mr Stephen John toastmaster and president-elect.

Grace was given by Mr. Paul Bannister (vice president) and after the meal was taken the District governor who was invited to propose the toast to the Rotary Club.

He spoke about the Club in a most positive way stating that he was impressed by the large number of activities undertaken during the year 2022/23.

The committed work came under the following - money raising, community service, youth activities, and foundation.

In total over 31 events took place and the governor stated that the commitment of members, supporters and voluntary helpers was outstanding and the Club was in a healthy state.

At the end of the evening he was pleased to present a Paul Harris Award to member John Walker-Smith for his services to the club and community.

Mr. Kraus the other guest speaker was also a holder of a Rotary Paul Harris Award for his work in raising thousands of pounds for various charities within the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock areas.

His delivery was more light hearted stating that he once kidnapped Terry Wogan and held him for ransom. Terry generously paid £1,000 to help the charity and joined in the fun of the occasion!

Peter kindly offered his services to the Club in raising funds at future planned events and invited members to visit the museum at Hancocks Old Shipyard in Pembroke Dock in June.

The Rotary Club would like to thank all guests and guest speakers for their input into what proved to be an informative and pleasant charter event.
