The Saundersfoot and District Poppy Appeal 2002 raised the excellent sum of £3,667.37.

Appeal organiser, Mr. M. T. Quinn, and the committee of the Saundersfoot branch of the Royal British Legion would like to extend resounding thanks to the valiant band of house-to-house collectors, to the business premises where static collections were made and to the organisations who donated for wreaths as well as those who made donations and contributed to collections individually last November and helped this very worthy cause.

The efforts made by the house-to-house collectors in particular, and those of the young ATC Cadets are especially appreciated in view of the awful weather prevailing in November, when the main alternative occupation was enduring 'flu! However, come New Year and a branch junior member braved the briny and was sponsored for over £30 - brilliant for a last-minute effort - a sum which should be well exceeded should he decide to venture forth in the future.

Even so, it was just a little disappointing that the total did not quite reach that of the previous year - perhaps it is no coincidence that mainly ill-health robbed the appeal of several collectors and, while many residents obviously contributed elsewhere, it would be fantastic if anyone else would be able to help next November, particularly in the Pentlepoir area. If so, could they please contact Mr. Quinn on 811080.

For the second time they had help from the ATC Cadets from Tenby who between them collected £117.55, exceeding their colleagues' total of last year. It is hoped that their efforts will help them in the Lord Lieutenant's competition.
