METHODIST CHURCH

The church was beautifully decorated with fruit, vegetables and flowers for the Harvest Festival service last Sunday. The preacher was Rev. Robin Webley. He spoke on Psalm 65, sometimes called the Harvest Psalm. Verses 9-13 in particular express the sentiments of this season. This Sunday morning at 11 am the service will be led by Mr. Richard Laws. A warm welcome is extended to all.

Hebron Baptist Church

Last Sunday, Mr. Anthony Standing was the worship leader, giving a welcome to new and returning visitors. Mr. Geoff Beckingham, of Open Air Campaign Ministries, was the speaker and Miss Helen Standing was the pianist and Mr. and Mrs. Taberer were the welcome and communion stewards. Mr. Beckingham based his talk on the Sermon on the Mount, the key verses being Matthew 7 v 28, 'Those listening were astonished by His teaching' because it was so radical. The Met Office gives out national weather warnings and Jesus used the parable of the wise and foolish builders and the storm to give a warning too. The foolish man built only on the sand, and when the rough weather came he lost everything. He seemingly made quick progress, but it all came crashing down around him (Matt 7v26-28). We all need to get rid of things that hinder us and aren't strong foundations for living. The wise man took the time to build on a solid foundation and when the storm came he was safe. Wise builders are hard working and patient. They do careful preparation and foundation work and take no short cuts that will lead to problems later on. It would be no good reading the DIY instructions if we don't put them into practice. If we don't do what Jesus says and don't follow His safety precautions, doing only what seems easy to us, we will have hardship further down the line. Jesus followed God's plan to His death, a painful and humiliating death. He didn't want to go through it, but knew that He had no choice in order to save those who trust their lives to Him. We are the ones under God's wrath, but because of His love for us He gave us a way out if we trust Him and believe that Jesus took the punishment. Communion was celebrated at the end of the service. Afterwards, members of the congregation shared fellowship with visitors over refreshments in the hall. This Sunday at 11 am, Rev. Roy Shearman will lead the worship and Mr. Brian Jones will be the speaker. There will be activities for young people in the hall during the message. There will be no mid-week meetings this week. The Harvest Thanksgiving will take place at 11 am on Sunday, September 16. The Harvest Supper and Auction will be held at 6.30 pm on Monday, September 17, cost £5 bookable in advance.
