Saundersfoot’s Meet the Councillor event raised a few matters for members of the Community Council to consider.
The Community Council’s Manager/Clerk, Samantha Turner shared: “Whilst we don’t have responsibility for many of the issues raised, we can pass on feedback and ask questions of relevant organisations.”
Questions raised at the recent event included - a reminder about an issue raised a couple of months back about the brambles in North Close.
“We have raised this with Pembrokeshire County Council and now investigating whether this patch could be looked after by the Wombles - once the blackberry harvest has ended! We’ll keep you posted,” explained the Clerk.
A regular visitor to the village suggested that Saundersfoot needs more bins (dog poo bins in particular), especially up Stammers Road, St Bride’s Hill, Ragged Staff, Ridgeway.
“We are aware of this issue, and sadly some of the bins were removed because holiday lets were using them for their ‘end of week’ rubbish. We will raise this again to see if we can reach some arrangement with PCC,” continued the Clerk.
A resident also raised the issue of the doctor’s surgery appointment system, feeling that it’s unacceptable that the only way of realistically getting an appointment is to queue up outside which is not good when you’re ill and/or old.
Community Council chair, Cllr Alec Cormack has regular meetings with the Surgery (along with local county councillors Cllr Chris Williams and Cllr Alistair Cameron).
“This is an issue that has been raised many times. There are plans for improvements which we hope will be evident soon,” remarked the Clerk.
The next Meet the Councillor is again at the Market in the Regency Hall on the first Tuesday of the month (September 1st) between 11am and 1pm.
“Please come by and say ‘hello’ - let us know if you have any questions, concerns or observations, we’d love to meet you. And, if you can’t make it but would like to get in contact you can do this via our website here.”
The next meeting of Saundersfoot Community Council held will be on Thursday, September 3 at 6pm.
