Sir, As residents of Castle View, Saundersfoot, we are writing to you regarding the proposed housing development in the field behind Castle View/ Whitlow. We understand that up to 80 houses per hectare can be built on land. This field is six hectares; that's up to 480 houses in Saundersfoot and that could mean up to 1,000 extra adults, 1,000 children and cars in our small village. The school is full, with a waiting list; the doctors, shops etc. could not cope with this. Also neither could the sewerage system; it would probably mean building a sewage pumping station somewhere in the village - a nice tourist attraction! The traffic would be horrendous and the access to the site would be very dangerous, with no visibility going out onto the only country lane into the village, which we do not want destroyed, as it is full of beautiful trees and protected wild flowers. There is also a wood in this field full of wildlife, badgers, foxes, partridges, pheasants, owls, herons, jays, newts, toads etc. We have even had otters in our garden. These would all disappear if houses were built here. This development is also beyond the village boundary and we want to keep Saundersfoot as a village. A spokeswoman from National Parks said we can move the boundary. If that's the case, where would we end up, Tenby, Pentlepoir, Kilgetty, one big housing mass. And who would get these houses? Would our local children or would they move in people from other areas, Liverpool, Pembroke Dock? Or would they, like a lot of our houses, just become holiday homes or holiday lets? We want to keep this field as it is and keep Saundersfoot as a small village.
The Stafford family, Castle View, Saundersfoot.
