This week saw the launch of the Saundersfoot Connect website. Aware that not everyone likes being on social media the website is an easily accessible resource to complement the Facebook group. It will be a useful resource for information like what food shops and take-away outlets are still open for business, a diary of weekly activities, a very useful link to a huge range of official resources and more. There is also a link to the Facebook page so people on the website won’t miss out, and vice versa. A big shout out to Guy Willett, of Pembrokeshire Web Design, and Andrew Lowe, of Signature Design, for all their help and support on the design and creation of the site. https://www.saundersfootconnect.co.uk
• Another very kind donation to The Old Chemist Inn’s ‘Donate a Meal’ scheme came from the Allen family this week. Regular visitors to the village, they were keen to remain involved and very kindly donated 10 meals. What a lovely gesture! The scheme is for people in Saundersfoot that would benefit from a hot meal delivered to their door. If you’d like to order and/or donate a meal, see The Old Chemist Inn’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/theoldchemistinn/), or contact them on 01834 813982 or via their website (https://www.chemistinnsaundersfoot.co.uk/).
• David Kirkpatrick at the Royal Oak pub has offered free meals for individuals or families who are struggling through the lockdown. A range of curries, pies, chilli and desserts are on offer, including some gluten free and vegetarian meals. If you know anyone who could benefit from this very kind offer, contact David via Facebook.
• This week Saundersfoot saw the launch of a new fresh seafood service, Saundersfoot Seafood. The coronavirus restrictions have hit at just the time that inshore fishermen, who cannot fish in the winter because of bad weather, are putting to sea again. This initiative supports our fishermen and enables customers to buy local. Every day the Facebook page will be updated with the catch of the day and you can order direct from the fisherman. Negotiate a price and collection details and you can be enjoying sea bass, lobster, crab and more - it doesn’t get any fresher than that! https://www.facebook.com/saundersfootseafood/
• Emma Price’s second volume Fur Kids Digital Scrapbook was release on Wednesday. Our furry (and in one case, not very furry!) companions are keeping many of us entertained and happy during these very strange times and are well worth their own feature. Please send your Saundersfoot based photographs for any of Emma’s Digital Scrapbooks to [email protected]. Remember to include your name and the name(s) of the subject(s).
• A very popular site around the village now is the cheery vehicles from Tuk Tuk Time. The business, based in Kilgetty, started June 2019 initially for hire out tuk tuks for tours, weddings, events and a small amount of taxi work. Obviously none of those activities are happening right now, so the four tuk tuks (Enfys, Del, Hector and Hattie) are being put to good use offering a delivery service around Saundersfoot, Kilgetty, Begelly, Stepaside and Pentlepoir. The cheery drivers are all volunteers aged from mid-teens to late 50s. Payment for their delivery services are on a ‘Pay What you Can’ basis, and free for those in financial distress. Tuk tuks are known as the vehicle of love and that has become so very true of our own little fleet in this corner of the county. For more information, call 01834 813333, email [email protected]. Visit the website https://www.tuktuktime.co.uk and their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pg/tuktuktime
• There were several rousing renditions of Happy Birthday to Colonel Tom Moore after our Clap for Carers on Thursday evening - some in the Sign Language and Welsh learnt that same day. As ever, the residents in Bevelin Hall did really well, with many standing next to the fabulous mural that is developing every week at the Ludlow’s house.
• Pembrokeshire Laundry Services are now an outlet for contributions for the PATCH charity (Pembrokeshire Action To Combat Hardship). Donations of packaged food, toiletries and cleaning products are always well received. Pembrokeshire Laundry Services is open Monday and Friday 9am-1pm. https://www.facebook.com/pg/pembslaundry
• Andrew Broomhall, of Pembrokeshire Laundry Services, shared up a fabulous video of the gas explosion that ripped out the Co-op corner shop in Saundersfoot in 1984. Despite the devastation, nobody was seriously hurt which, when you look at the footage of the aftermath, is a miracle!
• Team SaraH together with many of the Open Mic Saundersfoot performers, hosted their first Lockdown Gig on Friday. Recorded in living rooms around the village, and streamed to living rooms on Friday night, the event was a great success. Look out for more to come. The gig can be found as a Play List on Open Mic Saundersfoot YouTube channel. And, if you’re a performer and would like to contribute a song to the next event, contact [email protected]
• VE Day celebrations. Aside from the various ‘front garden’ street parties that are going on, many homes are putting up red, white and blue bunting to get into the VE Day sprit. Some of the groups in Saundersfoot are organising their own ‘events’. Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism are encouraging businesses to decorate their windows and take photographs to put up on Visit Saundersfoot Facebook page for those who can’t get to the shops. Saundersfoot & District Historical Society are compiling an online ‘scrapbook’ of WWII memories. If you’d like to contribute any family stories, recollections and/or photographs, please contact [email protected] Open Mic Saundersfoot are putting together a VE Day gig for Friday evening. More details on their Facebook page. If you’d like to contribute a song, please contact [email protected]. Please visit the Saundersfoot Connect Facebook page to find out what other events are happening.
