The Saundersfoot Connect Facebook group is now one month old with nearly 2,000 members. “All the admin team are so pleased that Saundersfoot Connect has gone from strength to strength,” said Sarah Whiddett. “It is fulfilling its objective of being a positive, safe and supportive place to be during these challenging times”. The admin team have three basic rules for posting - Is it true? Is it kind? Is it useful? - posts that don’t fit these criteria get removed. “We don’t have to remove many posts at all,” said Sara Hicks, “and that’s all down to the community spirit that is, and continues to be, a key part of the village and the Connect group.”
• Saundersfoot Connect have teamed up with Pure West Radio for a new feature - the Saundersfoot Shout Out. This is an opportunity for a ‘thank you’, a ‘happy birthday’ or simply just a ‘hello’ to anyone in Saundersfoot. Played on Toby Ellis’s lunchtime slot, the dedications are going out every weekday just after noon. Listen in to see if the next record is for you! And, if you miss the slot, you can always listen again on their podcasts www.purewestradio.com. If you’d like a Shout Out for anyone in Saundersfoot, contact Pure West Radio via their Facebook page or email [email protected]
• The weekly Saundersfoot Sunflower Challenge co-ordinated by admin team member Jackie Taylor has been given a boost this week. Flo Croxford, aged nine, has been sowing sunflower seeds in pots and selling them to raise funds for Greenacres Animal Rescue. Having sold out within days, she’s sown 40 more seeds ready for delivery in the next couple of weeks. Well done Flo!
• Foodie Friday is proving popular. This week the group had recipes from Mark at the Stone Crab, Debbie Ludlow from Little & Large Bites together with recipes for healthy cookies and dandelion ‘honey’. Group members have also been sharing their recipes. There’s no need to go hungry that’s for sure!

Between the public and the pub, 120 dinners have been gifted. Donations go to any residents nominated by neighbours, friends or family. They are always gratefully received. “Thank you very much to The Old Chemist Inn for my delicious cawl and chips... it was very much appreciated and such a kind gesture,” said one happy recipient. Friday Tapas, Sunday lunch and a daily menu are on offer. If you’d like to order and/or donate a meal, see The Old Chemist Inn’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/theoldchemistinn/), or contact them on 01834 813982 or via their website (https://www.chemistinnsaundersfoot.co.uk/).
• The Thursday Clap for Carers slot at 8 pm is proving very popular. People are getting very creative. Residents of The Strand seem to be upping the game every week with fancy dress and dances. The Ludlow family (Dean, Debbie and Lewis) make a noise too. “Saundersfoot Connect members look forward to the videos that get shared each week,” said Ladan Harper.
• Local author Mandy Allsop released a new Tiny the Ferret adventure. Rhyming stories about Tiny and his friends, this week’s adventure featured a grasshopper and one of Tiny’s distant relatives from Mexico. Read all about Tiny’s adventures on Saundersfoot Connect’s Facebook group page.
• The group is also encouraging local businesses to share tips to members. Recently John Rothery (Rothery Health Centre & Sports Injury Clinic) shared some easy exercises to avoid getting too tense for those of us who are spending more time than usual at the computer or in front of the TV. Team SaraH (the team behind last year’s Saundersfoot Harbour Festival among other events) have started a weekly tip for all business owners, helping to keep businesses going during the lockdown.
